National Day Observance 2015
Teck Ghee Community Centre was flushed with a sea of red as children, youths, senior citizens and staff from AMKFSC were all decked in Singapore’s national colours. They were all there for the National Day Observance, an event held annually by AMKFSC Community Services. The theme selected for the observance event this year was 'Rising Against All Odds'.
Vice Chairman, Mr Eric Chan, started the event with a speech extolling the values of Belief, Dedication and Unity, which Singapore’s Pioneers had when building up our nation. He hoped that staff of AMKFSC would similarly embrace the same values as the organisation, now 37 years old, heads towards its Golden Jubilee.
After the opening speech, children from BASIC, performed delightful skits and dances to bring the attendees back 50 years in time. Videos of Singapore growing through the ages were shown, reminding every attendee how Singaporeans have persevered through the tough times together as one.
The last performance of the day was a dance routine, performed by children from BASIC, youths from Youth Infinity and seniors from COMNET; had everyone clapping and cheering them on. This was followed by everybody in the room, rising and proudly singing the national anthem.
As a birthday cake for Singapore was brought out to be cut, it was heartening to hear the children from BASIC, without instruction, singing to this year’s theme song “Our Singapore”.
CEO Dr Vincent Ng, was soon asked on stage for his closing speech. He thanked the organisers and performers for making the event a very successful one. He advised the younger generation to learn from our pioneers, to be as tenacious, selfless, determined and independent as they were. The event closed to a standing ovation as Dr Ng, invited the younger generation to stand and applaud the Pioneers in their midst as a mark of respect and gratitude, for all they have done to build up Singapore.
