Teen Edge Club’s Got Character
On June 23, 2017 (Friday), nine youths between the ages of 13 years old and 14 years old participated in a character workshop ‘I Got Character OK!’, organised by Sengkang FSC’s Teen Edge Club (TEC).
The one-day psycho-educational workshop aimed to build up the youths’ resiliency during their developmental years through raising awareness of their psychosocial competency and building character.
During the activity, the teens learned the importance of resilience, and tips to build up their resiliency as they journey through life, through a series of engaging games and puzzles. For example, the TEC facilitators specially reworked Taboo – a word-guessing game in which players guess the word on another’s card without using the word itself or five additional words listed on the card – to include emotions, support network such as family and coping strategies, making it easy for the youths to retain information.
In the afternoon, the youths participated in an experiential activity at Xcape, where they had a blast. Not only did they forge new friendships at the workshop, they also gained knowledge on decision-making, expressing their emotions in a positive and safe way, and the importance of putting themselves in someone else’s shoes.
