BASIC Day 2017
“We will, we will rock you! Rock you!” the children in the Green team sang at the top of their voices, as they cheered their team mates on.
Organised by NCS Pte Ltd, AMKFSC’s longtime corporate partner and supporter of BASIC Student Care Services, the annual BASIC Day – a day where students between the ages of seven and 14 years old come together to participate in activities – was held at the sports hall at Republic Polytechnic on July 3, 2017 (Monday).
The NCS volunteers were on the scene early to set up the relay games. By the time the 100 or so children trudged into the hall, everyone was raring to go. The emcee got everyone excited by having each team – Blue, Green and Red – start off the day with their cheers; and boy, did the children give their all!
Before the games officially began, the teams sent six children to dress up their mascots, played by NCS volunteers, with everyday items such as newspapers, toilet rolls and tape. They will be rated according to their creativity, and the mascots will have to keep their “costumes” on for the rest of the day.
Every child had the opportunity to participate in at least one of the games. The relays not only tested the children’s physicality and agility, but also their problem-solving skills. For example, they had to dribble a ball through cones, before dashing to the finishing line to solve a puzzle.
Lunch was then served to fill up those hungry tummies after a round of vigorous exercise. During the next half of the day, the children had fun trying out carnival games in various booths, put up by the NCS volunteers. They were also rewarded with small gifts including snacks and candies when they won.
This year’s BASIC Day was exceptionally special for the children, as their parents were also invited to the event. Thank you very much to our NCS volunteers for making BASIC Day yet another successful event! We hope to see you again next year.
