COMNET CREST outreaches at Ang Mo Kio Police Division HQ
About 120 police officers from the Community Policing Unit and the Crime Strike Force from the Ang Mo Kio Police Division gathered at Ang Mo Kio Police Division headquarters on July 12 and 26, 2017 to attend a dementia awareness talk organised by the Community Resource Engagement and Support Team (CREST) at COMNET Senior Service.
Apart from raising awareness of dementia among those in the police force, CREST also hoped to spread the importance of fostering a dementia-friendly community and suggest different ways in which the police may play a part.
At the talk, the participants were taught to identify signs and symptoms of persons with dementia, as well as the proper techniques to communicate with persons with dementia in various settings, including retail, public transport, and food and beverage outlets. They also participated in engaging role-play and a practical hands-on session, where they practiced being patient, and reassuring to persons with dementia, and how to avoid confrontation with them.
