Project R.I.C.E+ 2017
Every year, youth volunteers from the Singapore Red Cross initiates and organises Project R.I.C.E+, an annual community service project that aims to touch the lives of the less fortunate in Singapore by providing them with daily household necessities. In 2016, more than 15,000 packages containing food and other household essentials were delivered to over 25,000 beneficiaries through Project R.I.C.E+.
On August 19 and 20, 2017 (Saturday and Sunday), volunteers from Red Cross coordinated the distribution at AMKFSC, while about 100 volunteers from (IRAS) packed and distributed the rations.
About 136 families from Ang Mo Kio Family Service Centre, Family Services @ Yio Chu Kang, Cheng San Family Service Centre, Sengkang Family Service Centre and Punggol Family Service Centre under AMKFSC benefitted from the distribution.
Some volunteers even went the extra mile when they saw a mother coming to one of our centres to collect her rations with a toddler in tow. Worried that the mother would not be able to carry both toddler and the rations, the volunteers immediately offered their help to carry her rations and walk her home.
Thank you very much, Singapore Red Cross and and IRAS for your generous contributions and time. We are very thankful to be one of the many agencies supported by Project R.I.C.E+ again this year.
