Spright Academy Attends UOB’s Financial Literacy Workshop

Financial literacy is important skill to teach and inculcate among the children. It helps them to visualise the concept of money through earning, spending, saving, investing and even donating! One of such sessions was organised by UOB Singapore, on the 18th December 2019 (Wednesday) for our children from Spright Academy,m where they participated in a one-day financial literacy workshop, introducing them to the idea money management, educating them on the right way to spend and save, and the basics of digital banking.

Asyiqin, Staff of Spright Academy (Ang Mo Kio), felt positive about the workshop. She explained, “The children will learn a lot! From now on, they will not mindlessly say that they want to buy this or that. They will be wiser and think twice about how they want to spend their pocket money”.

The workshop first began with UOB introducing themselves with a tour around the Main Office and the UOB Plaza. The tour included a short visit to their art gallery, showcasing distinctive art pieces by various artist and their inspirations in making them.

The main programme, the financial literacy workshop, begins shortly after. With prizes to be won, the children paid much attention and participated actively. To ensure that the workshop is interactive and practical to the students, a simulation through a board game was prepared whereby the children can apply what they have learned on the spot.

“The workshop is fun and exciting! I learned that we should spend money on what we need and not what we want,” said Jasline*, a student who partook in the workshop.

To enrich students with new knowledge and memorable experience, special outings and workshops are held for students at Spright Academy. Spright Academy hopes that more students can be provided with opportunities to attend events such as the UOB’s Financial Literacy workshop.
