Finding the WE in Uni[we]rsal Digital Access
We are honoured to have been one of the co-organisers behind "𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗘 𝗶𝗻 𝗨𝗻𝗶[𝗪𝗘]𝗿𝘀𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀", a virtual event held on Saturday in commemoration of International Day for the Eradication of Poverty (IDEP).
Coined by the United Nations, IDEP presents an opportunity to stand in solidarity with people living in poverty by acknowledging their experiences and struggles. With technology becoming more pervasive in Singapore, our focus this year was on digital poverty.
We got to hear first-hand from individuals struggling with digital access as well as experts and volunteers who actively work with these communities to ensure they are not left behind. In addition, our participants also got to take the first look at the results of a nationwide opinion poll on the digital divide in Singapore.
To take one step further, we invited everyone to share their ideas on how we can create a more digitally-inclusive society and we couldn't be more encouraged by all the responses that came in!
While more can be done to tackle digital poverty in Singapore, we are grateful for all who joined us in championing universal digital access this year and we look forward to working together to create a more digitally-inclusive society
