Bake-It Forward: Bryan
Baking isn’t just great for satisfying sweet tooths – it’s a way of building bonds and giving thanks, too.
For Bryan, Social Work Associate at AMKFSC's ComNet Senior Service, baking started as an activity that brought him and his mom closer together. “I watched her bake since I was 12, before she took me under her wing,” he reminisces. “And until now, she still shows me how I can do things better - even as I baked this Oreo cheesecake yesterday!”
Her influence on Bryan doesn’t just stop in the kitchen. “My mom inspires me the most, even beyond baking. As a single parent, her strength in supporting us despite the struggles made me want to help others as well– to let them that they’re not alone.”
This passion brought him to the social service sector, where he supports the wellbeing of seniors in our community. “I’ve built a wonderful bond with the seniors at COMNET Senior Service. It warms my heart when they come down for our activities, even when it might be challenging for them!”
"As much as we’re the ones supporting them, our centre wouldn’t be successful without their participation and spirit,” Bryan shares with gratefulness. His way of giving back? “To me, baking is the most heartfelt thing you can do – so making my favourite Oreo cheesecake for the seniors is how I celebrate this bond we’ve built together.”
